Hair Care No-No's

Hair Care No-No's

We've rounded up our top hair care no-no's brought to you by Laced Hair Care and our founder Lacy Gadegaard. These forbidden rituals can leave your luscious locks in distress. Fear not, for with a sprinkle of knowledge and a dash of care, you can steer clear of these pitfalls and keep your hair healthy and glowing no matter the season.

  1. Under-washing:

"Remember when it was popular to have dirty hair… Well, turns out it’s causing more hair loss! Let’s take care of our scalps too!" says Lacy Gadegaard-West. You hear all the time that going without washing is one of the best things you can do for your hair. And if you've met Lacy, you know she's not shy about emphasizing the importance of scrubbing regularly to cleanse your hair and scalp of buildup and sebum.

It's true, there are some people who wash to excess, but as a stylist of 20+ years, Lacy will tell you firsthand she sees a lot more under-washing. You should be washing your hair 2-3 times a week, and possibly 3-5 times a week if you sweat a lot during workouts. "Your scalp is loaded with dirt and residue from your dry shampoo, and your hair needs a deep conditioning masque to help hydrate your ends too!"

Check out our Deep Conditioning MasquePacked with our powerful and proprietary blend of essential nutrients and plant stem cells that deeply penetrate the hair cuticle to repair damage while giving strands the ultimate boost of hydration and protection against future damage.

  1. Tug of War with Brushes:

We see it all too often, hair breakage caused by harsh treatment of hair when brushing. And really, it all comes down to the type of brush. I recommend getting a really nice brush that's meant for detangling. "Brushing your hair should be a gentle process. Harsh tugging and pulling can lead to hair loss and split ends. Opt for our Laced Hair wet and dry brush, and I recommend brushing through our deep conditioner once to twice a week to improve hydration and the health of hair."

  1. Drowning in Chemicals:

Harsh chemicals, mineral oil, sulfates, and parabens are everywhere when it comes to products for your hair. The truth is, these ingredients are cheaper, so brands often opt for these. The price may be tempting up front, but we promise the price you will pay over time will be too high. From breakouts to dry, brittle damaged hair, say "no" to fillers. At LHC, every product is crafted to be free from moisture and color-sucking products, and crafted with ingredients that are safe enough to put on your face.

Here's what we're free from (just to name a few):

  • Gluten
  • No harsh sulfates
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS/SLES)
  • Mineral oil
  • Petrolatum
  • Parabens
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI)
  • Sodium Chloride
  • Triethanolamine
  • Keratin
  • UVA/UVB filters
  1. Scrimping on Moisture:

Moisture is the elixir of life for your hair. Skipping conditioner or using drying products can leave your strands thirsting for hydration. Treat your hair to regular doses of moisture, whether through deep conditioning treatments or nourishing oils. Check out our Laced Hair Hydrating Oil for the most weightless, fast-absorbing oil that is power-packed with essential antioxidants and nutrients to instantly transform dull, stressed hair and extensions. Nourish damaged strands to restore hair’s integrity and prevent future damage while sealing in moisture and adding shine.

  1. Skipping Scalp Care:

We have a saying around LHC, "Scalp care is skincare." Think it over, your scalp is an extension of your face. Not only do you need to wash it regularly, but you should also be hydrating it with moisturizer. Lotion is a must-have for most skincare gurus; that's why we created our fluffy Scalp Serum. It rehydrates your scalp and infuses it with ingredients to help promote hair growth. Level up your scalp routine with a Soothing Gua Sha comb that helps deliver nutrients and oxygen to follicles, stimulates blood flow, reduces tensions, promotes relaxation, and improves circulation.

Conclusion:

As we close our journey through the land of hair care no-no's, remember these pearls of wisdom from Laced Hair Care. With gentle care and mindful practices, you can maintain the health and radiance of your hair.
